DXing ON FREE BAND

Communicating with HF Radio is a hobby that has long been enjoyed by radio enthusiasts. The HF Radio frequency range spans from 0–30 MHz. One of the most popular frequencies for communication—especially for long-distance (DX) contacts is 27 MHz, or the 11-meter band.

27.410–27.805 MHz are known as the Free Band.  Radio users (DXers) enjoy operating on the Free Band because there are no strict rules, allowing them to freely communicate and use any radio equipment or antenna they prefer (without regulation).  The calling frequency for Free Band operation is 27.555 MHz USB mode.

For those who enjoy the freedom to experiment with radio equipment, antennas, and wish to make radio friends from all around the world, the Free Band is the perfect place. DXer communities from across the globe have their own DX Clubs. One of them is Echo Kilo (EK), which has a representative in Indonesia known as 91EK. EK is the club name, while 91 represents the country code for Indonesia.

Enjoy the DX and see you on the Air, 73
